Small town living has its perks. Janice and I will be attending a Christmas celebration in Cobden, Illinois this afternoon.
This tiny city (population maybe 1,000) has banded together to bring us carolers, surrey rides, a live Christmas display, a wreath contest, picture shoots for children, a gingerbread house contest, art exhibits galore, refreshments and a walk with Santa. I know this may sound cheesy to some but I relish it. There is something special about a community joining forces for such an event. To take part is to visit with old friends and meet new friends, take in the many events and absorb lots of Christmas spirit. And hey…my daughter Jaime will be having an open house in her new Monarch Art Studio. We will be able to stand on the sidewalk, look in her display window, and watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” with sound streaming from outdoor speakers. Can’t wait!
