Chris,
A trial camping run would have made perfect sense, except that the rented RV probably wouldn't have needed the work done on it that our used bargain purchase did. Our family did pitch in to work on the Airstream several times last fall after we purchased it. That enthusiasm has since waned, but we will give it some more time to see if it rekindles.

Thanks for reading and commenting. Always appreciated!

The idea that travelling in an Airstream is the equivalent of "camping" is an interesting one. Not a big deal I know but it struck me as interesting.

Maybe taking the kids and grandkids on atrial cmping run with a rented RV or getting down to a tent expereince even might have flecshed out the level of real inrtest in camping.

Having said that I applaud your interest in doing something that was intended to benefit your family. To me that outweighs any minor second guessing.

Daniel,
Good example. "Free" is usually not free and most bargains are not really bargains.

Nearly every TV commercial is based on the premise that they can influence the viewer (who had not previously considered their item) to believe, "I NEED this" and "it is such a good deal". Infomercials are notoriously good at this tactic.
